Description
Volunteers will contribute to an ongoing project focused on regeneration through direct seed sowing. Participants will dedicate 30 to 38 hours per week to various activities, including:
- Reforestation Activities (4 mornings per week):
- Sowing seeds in Sierra Lujar.
- Harvesting seeds.
- Building seed protectors.
- Creating and digging swales.
- Conducting survival counts of previous plantings.
- Educational Sessions (once a week):
- Workshops on sustainable living, permaculture, deep ecology, project design, and more.
- Health and Self-Care Practices (3 afternoons per week):
- Yoga, Qi Gong, or similar activities.
- Monthly body-care treatment from professional practitioners in Orgiva.
- Community Living and Care:
- Group meetings and shared responsibilities (cooking, cleaning, etc.).
Accommodation, Food, and Transport
- Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in shared facilities at the Albergue of Orgiva.
- Food: Meals will be vegetarian, cooked collaboratively by the volunteers on a rotational basis, and shared together.
- Transport: Travel to the reforestation site will be facilitated by electric bicycles.
- Costs Covered by ESC: Travel costs, accommodation, meals, and a small allowance.
Training During the Activity
Volunteers will gain skills and knowledge in:
- Regenerating landscapes and direct sowing techniques.
- Permaculture, ecology, and sustainable living.
- Community dynamics, cultural awareness, and responsible consumption.
- Basic vegetarian cooking skills.
- Health and self-care practices.
Each volunteer will have access to a mentor for weekly discussions about personal development, well-being, and learning progress. Opportunities to learn and practice Spanish and English will also be provided through the OLS platform offered by ESC.
Participant Profile
Ideal candidates should:
- Have a basic understanding of English and Spanish (desirable).
- Be physically motivated, as activities involve working on steep, overgrown terrains.
- Show interest in topics like regeneration, eco-sustainability, healthy lifestyles, and intercultural living.
- Be open to dialogue and teamwork with fellow participants, mentors, and the host community.
- Display flexibility and willingness to engage in group dynamics for personal and team growth.
This short-term ESC placement does not affect eligibility for long-term volunteer opportunities.
